Dunlichity Cup Heat 5 - 13 August

15 competitors joined us for the 5th heat of the 2011 Dunlichity Cup. We were particularly pleased to welcome Alan Lythgoe from South Africa and fishery regular Darren Skinner who was fishing the competition for the first time.

A lot of fish were caught, particularly during the early pegs, with Will Jack setting the pace with two fish for 5lb 15oz.

In all, 8 3lb+ fish were caught, with James Gray winning the largest fish outside of the top 3, with a fish of 4lb. This was particularly creditable given that James was only recently out of hospital. A total 54lb 1oz were taken.

In the end, Magnus Macdonald, with 7lb 7oz beat George Swanson (6lb 13oz) into second place, with Will Jack third.

In the league, David Skinner remains out in front, with George Skinner, James Gray and Robert Todd close behind. The big mover was Magnus, whose 7lb 7oz moved him up to 8th place in the league. The 6th Heat of the competition is on Saturday 10 September.

Dunlichity Cup - Saturday 13 August

The next round of the Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 13 August at 09.00.

After a few weeks of poor conditions, we have started to have good numbers of fish caught again, with Ron Maslin catching 9 yesterday, and a father and son team who are on holiday both reaching double figures today.

The banks are likely to be very wet on Saturday, but unless there is a significant deterioration in the weather over the next 24 hours (in which case we will post an update on the Blog), the heat will go ahead.

Current Fishing Conditions

Over the last two weeks, fishing conditions have been very difficult.

The high temperatures of last week, coupled with low water flows from the feeder springs have led to high water temperatures and low oxygen levels. These conditions have resulted in the fish being lethargic and unwilling to "play". In addition, some fish are not surviving being caught and returned.

We have now installed an aerator to increase the oxygen flow into the top lochan and this is already improving mortality rates!

Visitors are seeing lots of fish but are not managing to get many hooked!

As a result of the conditions, and as a guesture of goodwill to our regulars, we have decided to reduce the price of all of our tickets by £2 per ticket until our next stocking (which should be within the next 7 - 10 days).
