The cup competition is competed for over 8 individual seven peg heats during which competitors take two fish. Prizes are awarded for the largest bags in each heat, with the season winner being the competitor with the largest cumulative bag over the 8 heats.
Liam missed the first heat of the season, and saw his father and 2010 Champion David Skinner move into pole position after the first few heats. Also in close contention throughout the season were Bill Greig, Robert Todd, Magnus Macdonald, George Skinner and James Gray.
Moving into the last heat, David Skinner was leading the competition with Liam closing in after strong performances in Heats 6 and 7. Liam finally overhauled his father towards the end of the final Heat and finished the competition with a cumulative bag of 35lb 2 oz.
Some interesting statistics for the 2011 competition:
29 anglers competed throughout the 8 heats.
Fish weighing in excess of 378lbs were taken.
8 competitors ended with bags in excess of 20lbs.
