Under the new arrangements, the first heat was a "2 fish" format, and Jamie MacGregor Snr set the pace by catching and returning a 10lb+ fish in the first peg for a credit of 10lbs. He followed this up with a 4lb 10oz fish before anyone else had taken a fish!
Although many fish were showing, only 14 fish were taken in the heat. Alan McMurchy caught two nice fish, 5lb 14oz and 3lb 8oz. Graham Matheson caught a 4lb 8oz fish, Denis Howell caught a 3lb 7oz fish and Matt Thompson caught a 3lb 6oz fish.
Jamie's first peg performance proved unassailable, and he took first place, with Alan McMurchy second, Matt Thompson third and Graham Matheson taking 4th prize.
