Fishery Re-opens Friday 23 December
The Top Lochan is fully thawed and the Bottom Lochan is 90% clear. The banks are okay with care but the water in the Bothy still needs reconnecting.

Fishery Update - 22 December
It is currently raining and the temperature is 10C. On the basis that the banks are not too wet, then we will reopen tomorrow.
I will do a "pitch inspection" at 09.00 in the morning and post the result on the blog. Alternatively, call the house for an update.

Fishery Closed due to Snow
The Fishery will remain closed today. Although the lochans are not frozen, we have had a reasonable fall of snow overnight and it is still snowing, making the banks hazardous. Access roads are also likely to be tricky.
In addition, we have had a burst pipe in the bothy which we are in the process of cleaning up.
Keep watching the blog for information on when we can reopen.

Dunlichity Cup Heat 7 Results
The 7th Heat of the Dunlichity Cup was held on Saturday 8 October. The weather was not kind, and a combination of holidays and illness reduced numbers to 11 brave souls!
Two competitors ended well ahead of the others - George Swanson winning with a bag of 8lb 8oz and Magus Macdonald second with a bag of 7lb 6oz. The only other contestant to take two fish was Bill Greig, who finished third with a bag of 4lb 13oz.
Graeme Matheson won the bottle for the biggest fish outside of the top three. Graeme Matheson, George Swanson, Magnus Macdonald and Bill Greig
The heat results have set up a great potential finish to this year's competition, with at least 8 competitors in with a realistic chance of taking the Cup.
The final heat has been moved to Saturday 12 November.

Dunlichity Cup Heat 7 - Saturday 8 October
A competition in its own right, with prizes of £60, £40 and £20, with a bottle for the largest fish, the heat also counts towards the overall Dunlichity Cup. Competition for the Cup is getting fierce, with a number of competitors in with a chance to become the 2011 Champion.

Dunlichity Cup Heat 6 - 10th September
The water fished really well, with 62lb in weight being taken. 7 competitors caught their full bag, and 10 3lb+ fish were caught. Both Liam Skinner and Richard Franklin had caught their bags before the end of the third peg! Graham Matheson also gets a special mention for breaking his duck with two fish for 4lb 7oz.
First prize went to Liam with a bag of 7lb 4oz, with George Skinner in second place (7lb bag) and Bill Greig third (6lb 12 oz). Liam also caught the biggest fish (4lb 7oz), with James Gray winning the bottle for the largest fish outside of the top three (3lb 12oz).
Competition for the Cup became more intense, with David Skinner retaining 1st place, but with a reduced lead over George Skinner, Liam Skinner and Bill Greig. Robert Todd and Magnus Macdonald both lost some ground after blanking, as did James Gray who only took one fish.
Dunlichity Cup Heat 6 - Tomorrow plus Change of Date for Heat 8
Please also be advised that the date of Heat 8 is changed from Saturday 5 November to Saturday 12 November.

Dunlichity Cup Heat 5 - 13 August
A lot of fish were caught, particularly during the early pegs, with Will Jack setting the pace with two fish for 5lb 15oz.
In all, 8 3lb+ fish were caught, with James Gray winning the largest fish outside of the top 3, with a fish of 4lb. This was particularly creditable given that James was only recently out of hospital. A total 54lb 1oz were taken.
In the end, Magnus Macdonald, with 7lb 7oz beat George Swanson (6lb 13oz) into second place, with Will Jack third.

Dunlichity Cup - Saturday 13 August
After a few weeks of poor conditions, we have started to have good numbers of fish caught again, with Ron Maslin catching 9 yesterday, and a father and son team who are on holiday both reaching double figures today.
The banks are likely to be very wet on Saturday, but unless there is a significant deterioration in the weather over the next 24 hours (in which case we will post an update on the Blog), the heat will go ahead.

Current Fishing Conditions
The high temperatures of last week, coupled with low water flows from the feeder springs have led to high water temperatures and low oxygen levels. These conditions have resulted in the fish being lethargic and unwilling to "play". In addition, some fish are not surviving being caught and returned.
We have now installed an aerator to increase the oxygen flow into the top lochan and this is already improving mortality rates!
Visitors are seeing lots of fish but are not managing to get many hooked!
As a result of the conditions, and as a guesture of goodwill to our regulars, we have decided to reduce the price of all of our tickets by £2 per ticket until our next stocking (which should be within the next 7 - 10 days).
Fishery welcomes International Golfer Tetsuji Hiratsuka
The other three had not flyfished before and did really well given the conditions. However, Tetsuji, who has won 5 times on the Japanese Tour and twice on the Asian Tour, showed great skill catching fish in virtually horizontal driving rain!
His golf waterproofs came in handy!
Dunlichity Cup Heat 4 - Saturday 9 July
Inevitably, not many fish were caught (16 taken) and the largest fish of the day at 5lb 12oz won the Heat for overall competition leader David Skinner. In second place, with two fish to 4lb 8oz was Bob Todd. One ounce behind in third place was Tim Watson.
The bottle for the largest fish outside of the top three was won by Richard Franklin.
The result meant that David Skinner consolidated his position at the top or the leader board. George Skinner's blank meant that he has been overtaken by Robert Todd and James Gray.
The next Heat of the Cup is on Saturday 13 August.
Mayfly Angling Club
The guys spent a considerable amount of time around the lochans during their stay, and only slightly less time in the hot tub!
The last afternoon consisted of a 6 peg competition followed by a BBQ. The competition was won by pre-tournament favourite, Dave Grierson, followed in second place by Graham Cameron and in third, Andrew Leslie.
We hope they all had a safe journey home and can recommend them as a great group to any future tour venues!
Big Fish Already for July's Troutmaster Competition
There are still plenty of large fish in the lochans since our last stocking.
Dunlichity Trout Fishery to Welcome The Mayfly Angling Club
The Club will be staying with us from Wednesday 29 June to Saturday 2 July. As part of their stay, they will be holding a competition on the Friday afternoon. As a consequence, the top lochan will be closed for a period of time to be determined.
Once finalised, we will publish the closure times so that regular guests may plan around them.
Dunlichity Cup Heat 3 - Saturday 11 June 2011
20 fish were taken at a combined weight of 49lb 4oz. Many more fish were returned in the hope of a bigger fish!
Victor for the day was James Watson, who took a two fish bag of 6lb 15oz during the first couple of pegs. This after he had "blanked" in the first two heats! Second was Jim Gray with 5lb and in third place was Will Jack with 4lb 8oz. Magnus Macdonald won the bottle for a fish of 3lb 6oz.
Results in the third head have led to a change in the leader board, with last year's Cup Winner, David Skinner taking the lead.
The next heat of the Cup is on Saturday 9 July. The entry form is in the Bothy, or entry can be made by email or telephone.
Heat 3 of the Dunlichity Cup on Saturday 11 June
There is everything to play for after the first two heats and competitors should get their names down on the entry sheet or call / email us asap.
Usual heat prizes of £60, £40, £20 and a bottle for the biggest fish.
Geoff Allsop competes for Dunlichity in Troutmaster Final
"Hi everyone,
Just to let you know how I got on at the Troutmaster final at Grafham. I fished from the boat for the first session (3 hours). I weighed in at just over 21 lbs. My largest fish was a four pound brown. I used a Black Buzzer and a Cruncher. We fished Savages Creek.
I fished the afternoon session from the bank at Gaynes Cove. After feeling confident, I was quickly bought back down to earth! I blanked - not so much as a pull! The fish had moved right out and I finished joint 21st.
Future winners at Dunlichity who qualify for the competition should try and attend the final. I understand that it's a long way but it's well worth the effort. It is a fabulous day, well organised and with very friendly competitors. Well done Rob Edmunds, a worthy winner.
Kind regards
Geoff Allsop"
Well done Geoff. Thanks for being such a fine ambassador for Dunlichity.
Dunlichity Cup Heat 2 - Saturday 7 May 2011
Over 60lb in weight was shared by the 17 competitors and a couple of the fish have gone on the Troutmaster Board for May.
The victor for the day was Hendrik Cornelius, with a bag of 6lb 15 oz. Hendrik edged Bob Todd into second place by one ounce, with Will Jack in third place with a bag of 5lb 9oz. Biggest fish outside of the top three went to Liam Skinner, with a fish of 3lb 7oz.
Mark Rafferty and Dunlichity Trout Fishery appear in The Sun!
Mark took our photo and submitted it to The Sun's fishing column. On Friday, 22 April, the photo was printed and Mark was the happy recipient of a £150 award for The Sun's Prize Catch.
A copy of the article is below.
2010 Dunlichity Troutmaster Champion is Geoff Allsop
Conditions on the day were good, and everyone caught fish. The competition was tight and the three bag average weight was around 7lbs.
Congratulations go to winner Geoff Allsop from Mansfield. Geoff travelled up to the Highlands specifically for the fish off, and his efforts were rewarded with a bag of 12lb 2oz, caught before half of the pegs had been completed. Geoff has indicated that he will compete in the National fish off, and part of his prize will be a contribution from Dunlichity Trout Fishery towards his travel costs.
George Skinner was second, winning a prize of £50 for a bag of 10lb 11oz and third place David Skinner won £25 for his bag of 8lb 11 oz.

Fishery Re-Opens Today

Weather Update - Wednesday 16 March
The Top Lochan at 10.00 am this morning.
We will give a further update once things begin to clear up.
Fishery Closed through Snow!
Although the lochans are not frozen, the snow means that the banks are not safe. Given the forecast over the next few days, it is unlikely that we will reopen until at least the weekend. Keep following the blog for further updates.

5. Saturday 13 August

The Entry Sheet will be in the Bothy prior to each heat.
Top Lochan thawed at 2.00 pm
Lochans Frozen Again!
Not sure how quickly the ice will burn off - please call before travelling, and watch the blog for any updates.
Sunday Update
The Bothy water is back on so the toilet is available.
Good fishing yesterday, with Martin Patience catching 13 ("and lost as many"). Reg Cambridge also caught fish, including a Troutmaster entry of 3lb 7oz. This means that we now have three at the top of the leaderboard, all with the same weight! Today is the last day of the February round of Troutmaster.
Opening Day Success!
George Skinner from Avoch caught 23 fish and George Swanson caught 10.
We have decided to enter fish for the February 2011 Troutmaster competition, which runs until tomorrow (Sunday 20th February). There are currently two fish at the top of the leader board both on 3lb 7oz.
The bottom lochan has now fully thawed but there remains no water in the Bothy (therefore no toilet).
Still on Winter Rates.
Open At Last!
The bottom lochan is still about a third frozen but the top lochan is clear.
The banks at the top are still quite damp and so care will be needed.
The biggest problem is that the water in the Bothy is still frozen so there is no toilet. We have lit a fire to help the thawing process but best to spend a penny before you come. We will make sure that there is sufficient drinking water for tea / coffee.
The date of the 2010 Troutmaster fish-off will be published shortly.
We are still on the winter rates until the end of March.
The weather forecast over the next few days is again very mixed, so still best to check the blog or call before setting off.
Still Not Open!
We will monitor it throughout the morning and will update the Blog if there is any significant thawing.
Fishery to re-open?
Provided that there is not a substantial frost overnight, or a significant rainfall which will waterlog the banks, then we intend to open tomorrow (Sunday) at 09.00.
We still have to check the plumbing in the bothy.
We will update the Blog tomorrow morning, but feel free to call after 08.00 to check that we have opened.
Happy New Year
The snow has now cleared from the banks and the carpark but the lochans are still frozen. However, temperatures have risen over the past couple of days, and if the lochans do thaw before the next cold spell, we will let you now straight away on the blog.
