Dunlichity Cup Heat 7 Results

Fishing conditions remained good for the 7th heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup.

Jim Dick set the pace with a 2lb 13oz fish in the first peg, but as we reach the end of this year's competition, tactics began to play a bigger role in the contest. with only four anglers taking their two fish.

Jim eventually took first place, with Denis Howell second and Jamie MacGregor Junior just edging out Jamie MacGregor Senior by one ounce for third place!

Jamie MacGregor Senior remains at the top of the Leader board, with Denis Howell now second and Graham Matheson and Jimmy Cooper tied for third.

The eighth and final heat of this year's competition is on Saturday 13 November at 09.00.  With any one of four can still win the Cup and with prizes for lower placed competitors, there is still everything to play for!

Dunlichity Cup 2021 Heat 6 Results

17 competitors arrived for Heat 6 of this year's competition.  Fishing conditions were good.

A lot of fish were caught on the first peg but only four were taken.  David Skinner held an early lead with a fish of 4lb 6oz.  Denis Howell was first to take two fish (3lb 6oz bag) but after five pegs, Graham Matheson took what was to be a winning lead with a bag of 5lb, including a fish at 3lb 3oz.

Jamie MacGregor Snr was second (4lb 11oz) and David Skinner was third with one fish.

The Heat 6 results open up the league table, and any one of 7 competitors can still win the cup.  Jamie MacGregor Snr leads with 39 points, followed by Graham Matheson (38 points) and Jimmy Cooper (37 points).  All to play for!

Dunlichity Cup Heat 5 Results

There was another great turnout for the fifth heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup, with 17 anglers competing.  It was also an opportunity to welcome back James Gray, 2014 Dunlichity Cup winner after a few years away.

A lot of fish were caught and taken in the first Peg, and the morning session continued to produce good catch numbers.  A few continued to return fish and ended up not getting their full bag!

Jimmy Cooper continued his fine spell of form, winning his second heat in succession, with a bag of 4lb 2oz. Jamie MacGregor Snr continued his return to form with second place (4lb) with Jim Dick in third (3lb 13oz).

After 5 heats, Jimmy Cooper heads the table with 35 points, with Denis Howell second on 31 points and Jamie MacGregor third with 30 points.  With a maximum of 30 points available to the potential winner over the final three heats, 14 anglers could still win the Cup!

Dunlichity Cup Heat 4 Results

18 competitors turned out for the 4th heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup.

The chance of catching a "champagne fish" changed a number of competitors tactics, with a number of 2lb+ fish being returned during the early stages of the heat.

Liam Skinner's 2lb 12oz fish was the largest on the day.  Unfortunately, he was not able to add another fish to his bag, but because there were 18 anglers in the heat, he won the bottle.

Winner of the heat was Jimmy Cooper (3lb 14oz), followed by Graham Matheson (3lb 10oz) and Denis Howell (3lb 9oz).

In terms of the overall competition, Graham Matheson moved into first place with 28 points, followed by Denis Howell and Jimmy Cooper on 25 points.  With 4 heats left, anyone could still win this year's cup.

The 5th heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup will be on Saturday 18th September at 09.00.

A great turnout of 17 anglers for the third heat of this year's competition arrived to favourable conditions.

A lot of fish were caught on Peg 1 but nothing was taken, and only two fish were taken in the next two pegs! Things picked up in Heat 4, and continued throughout the afternoon, with 22 fish being taken throughout the heat.

Graham Matheson won the heat with a bag of 4ib 9oz, with Robert Stronach second and Gordon Haggart third.

2021 Dunlichity Cup Heat 2

15 anglers turned up to compete in Heat 2 of this year's Dunlichity Cup.

Although the lochans had been recently stocked, the very warm weather coupled with a lack of oxygen in the water meant that the fish were not giving themselves up and had to be worked for!

Given the difficult conditions, Gordon Haggart changed tactics and took his two fish in the first two pegs, setting a target that nobody beat.  Dunlichity Cup newcomer Stuart Elliot came second and Neil Pirrie third.

After two heats, the league is wide open, with Gordon Haggart and Neil Pirrie sharing top place, and with 11 competitors with 7 points of each other.  Everything to play for!

The next heat of the Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 7 August.

Rental Equipment

We have had a number of enquiries recently regarding rental equipment.  On 22 March 2020, we posted the latest update regarding regulations at the Fishery following the outbreak of Covid.  One of the changes was to suspend renting out equipment.  That, and the other Covid related measures remain in place, but we hope to update our rules following the next relaxation of restrictions in August.  Any update will appear on the Blog.

2021 Dunlichity Cup Heat 1 Results

After all that has gone on in the world over recent months, it was a pleasure to welcome 14 competitors to the first heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup.  Whilst some Covid measures remain in place, seeing so many familiar faces brought a sense that normality is slowly being restored!

Although recently stocked, fishing was hard during the day, with an abundance of tadpoles and fly hatches resulted in the midges biting more than the fish!

Martin Krop did catch 6 at one peg, but that was the exception as catch numbers were low, and many of those who did manage to hook found that they had a Brown on the line and had to return!

Nine competitors did, however score points, with last year's Champion, Jamie MacGregor Snr scoring 10 points with a bag of 4lb 8oz, closely followed by Jimmy Cooper on 9 points with a bag of 4lb 5oz.

The second heat of the Dunlichity Cup will be on Saturday 17 July.

2021 Dunlichity Cup

The 2021 Dunlichity Cup dates have now been set.

We have held back on announcing the dates to enable as many people who may compete to have received their Covid vaccinations.  The dates are:

Heat 1 -     Saturday 26 June
Heat 2 -     Saturday 17 July
Heat 3 -     Saturday 7 August
Heat 4 -     Saturday 28 August
Heat 5 -     Saturday 18 September
Heat 6 -     Saturday 16 October
Heat 7 -     Saturday 30 October
Heat 8 -     Saturday 13 November

The format and rules will be similar last year:

  • Timings will be the same but there will be no lunch provided so competitors will need to bring their own food.
  • The draw for pegs and all movements around the lochans will be conducted in accordance with our Covid-19 arrangements.
  • The competition price will remain at £27.
  • Prizes will be £60 for the winner, £40 for second place and £20 for third place.
  • The overall Competition winner will receive £100, the Cup and a personal trophy at the end of the season.  Second place will receive £50 and a personal trophy and fishery vouchers will be awarded to the next 5 competitors. This is an increase in the prizes over last year and goes back to pre-Covid levels.

  • Jamie MacGregor Snr is the current Dunlichity Cup holder, having won the last three years. He and Liam Skinner have won the Cup three times, and David Skinner has won it twice. Who will get their name on the Cup this year?

Anyone who has not entered the competition before and is interested in competing will be more than welcome.  If you need anymore information about the Dunlichity Cup, please get in touch.

Saturday 2 January - Fishery Closed

The fishery remains closed.  There is ice across both lochans and snow has settled on top of the ice.

The forecast for the next week is for continued low temperatures (down to minus 6) so it is difficult to know when the lochans will be fishable.  As soon as we can reopen, we will place a post on the blog.
