Thursday 26 January @ 08.15
Unfortunately, an overnight frost has left a layer of ice on both Lochans.
The nice is not thick and we hope that forthcoming temperature increases will mean that we will not remain closed for long.
Keep watching the Blog for further information.

Wednesday 25 January @ 08.15
The snow has all gone, and the ice covering we had over both Lochans yesterday has thawed overnight.
Although the banks are very soft, particularly over the far side of the top Lochan, we are opening today.

Monday 23 January @ 08.30
A snowfall overnight has settled and there is more snow coming down now. This will mean that banks and access roads will have access issues.
The Lochans are not, at this point, frozen. We will aim to re-open as soon as some of the snow clears.

The Lochans have re-opened this morning. Apart from a small amount of ice on the bottom Lochan, the Lochans are clear. Banks are wetbbut useable with care.
The water in the Bothy is still off but we are looking at the electrical problem with the pump this morning.

As a result of a heavy snowfall overnight, we consider the banks are not safe and the lochans have a considerable ice covering (albeit thin ice).
Keep visiting the blog and we will let you know as soon as the lochans can be re-opened.

As a result of reasonable overnight temperatures, the lochans are fishable today. Unfortunately we have no water supply to the bothy, and therefore no toilet facilities until further notice. Bottled water will be available for tea/coffee etc.

Unfortunately, the Lochans are closed today through ice.
Although we had a wide covering of thin ice yesterday , one interid customer caught 5 fish! However, the overnight frost has covered the remaining fishable area.
The ice is quite thin, but given the weather forecast over the next couple of days, it is unlikely to clear.
Keep an eye on the blog and we will let you know as soon as the Lochans are fishable.

We opened the fishery late this morning. There was still a little ice on the lochans and the banks were quite wet from snow melt, but we had 5 anglers who were all into fish! By closing time, all of the ice had melted.
At this time of year, conditions will change on a daily basis, so keep checking the blog for status before setting off. The weather is often very different up here compared with town!

Fishery Closed due to Snow

We have checked the Lochans this morning. The Top Lochan is completely clear of ice and the Bottom Lochan is 60% clear. However, the banks have a 4" covering of snow and the snow is still coming down.
Given the uncertain weather forecast over the next 48 hours and the impact of the snow on access roads, we have decided to remain closed today. We will monitor the situation closely and will update the blog as soon as there are any developments.
