There is a few inches of snow and ice is forming around each lochan. Approach roads are also not great, so we are staying closed today.
Any thaw could lead to waterlogged banks, so please check the Blog for updates.

We have been upgrading our IT and, as a result, are sorry for the delay in updating the Blog. As a result, this blog covers both the September and October heats.
September
After a number of months of disappointing catches, my theory that we were waiting for high pressure to improve things was confirmed, with everyone catching fish. The first peg got off to a predictable start with Liam Skinner catching the biggest fish of the day at 4lb 10oz!
With only 10 competitors, prizes were limited to 2 places and a bottle, with Liam taking top spot from James Gray with George Ritchie winning the bottle.
Liam's victory meant that with only two heats left, only Jamie MacGregor Snr could prevent Liam from becoming 2015 Cup winner.
October
High pressure remained over the Highlands, and great conditions meant that everyone caught fish for the second heat in succession.
Aeneas Taylor Gordon Haggart, Tim Watson and George Ritchie had all caught and taken their two fish within the first four pegs. However, George Skinner went into the lead before lunch with a great fish at 7lb 2oz. George remained in the lead until 10 minutes from the end of the final peg, when John Allison caught his biggest ever rainbow at 9lb 11oz!
The results mean that Liam Skinner cannot now be beaten, but a number of people could win the other prizes.
The final heat of the 2015 Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 7 November. Prize giving will happen after the heat, and for those of you who can get a lift, then "bring a bottle" for the post-season celebration.

Dunlichity Cup 2015 - Heat 5 Results

It was a case of deciding winners after a number of equal scores in the 5th heat of the 2015 Dunlichity Cup.
In order to encourage competitors to keep trying to the end, we have always used the last person to catch a fish as the winner when two scores are tied. The ruling was used twice in Heat 5.
George Skinner set a blistering pace by taking both of his fish in the first 8 minutes of Peg 1. His total weight of 7lb 14oz was looking good until Aeneas Taylor matched it with his second fish taken in Peg 4. Aeneas took first place but both he and George gained 10 points. Jamie Macgregor Snr was 3rd with 5lb 4oz.
The "tied" ruling was also used to decide the bottle, with Liam Skinner and David Skinner catching equally weighted fish. David won the bottle as he caught his fish in Peg 4 whist Liam caught his in Peg 2!
Liam Skinner's 6 points kept him well out in front of the overall leader board. Jamie Macgregor Snr is second, but with 3 heats left, only 3 people can overtake Liam.
The next heat of the Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 5 September.

Dunlichity Cup 2015 Heat 4 - Saturday 4 July

Whilst 4th July means fireworks in USA, anyone expecting fireworks in the 4th heat of the Dunlichity Cup were in for a disappointment!
Having carried out a full stocking the day before, it would have been fair to assume that a lot of fish would be caught. This was not the case, and we were all left scratching our heads as to the reasons for the poor returns (more about this later).
One person who was not worried was overall leader Liam Skinner, who, with the largest fish of the day, secured another ten points. Second place went to Tim Watson (the only competitor to take two fish) with James Gray in third place. Jamie Macgregor Jnr had the largest fish outside of the top three.
Liam Skinner, James Gray, Tim Watson and Jamie MacGregor Jnr
After the competition, Graham Matheson (who had blanked) stayed on and caught 5. The following morning, Dean Geddes caught 10, including an 8lb 2oz fish. In subsequent days, we have had 8 or 9 double figure catches. One of the fish caught during the competition was spooned to see if it was tadpole gorging that had caused the hard fishing conditions, but it only contained midge pupa. So, it is still a mystery (I still think air pressure!).
Lets hope conditions improve for Heat 5, which will be on Saturday 1 August.

The third heat of the 2015 Dunlichity Cup was held on Saturday 6 June. The heat attracted a record 21 competitors.
Going was hard and large fish were hard to come by. Leader after two heats, Liam Skinner had to leave after peg 4 so the pressure was on. He didn't disappoint, with the largest fish of the day (4lb 7oz) on his last cast on peg 4! He left with everyone chasing his two fish total of 6lb 4oz.
Second place went to Ian Young, with a two fish bag of 6lb 0oz, with Jamie Macgregor Snr taking third place with 4lb 1oz. Newcomer Alan Dallas won the bottle for the largest fish outside of the top three.
Two firsts and a second place put Liam out in front with 29 points after three heats, with Jamie Macgregor Snr second with 24 points.

The second heat of the 2015 Dunlichity Cup was held on Saturday 2 May, with 14 anglers competing for points.

The winner was Liam Skinner with two fish to 7lb 12 oz. Second was Neil Pirrie (7lb 5oz) and third was Tim Watson (7lb 1oz). Jamie Macgregor's winning streak came to an end but he won the bottle for the biggest fish outside the top three (4lb 3oz).
Liam's win, following on from his second place in the first heat places him on top of the table with 19 points, followed by Jamie Macgregor Snr and Martin Haberfield.

Edit Post
19 competitors arrived to compete in the first heat of the 2015 Dunlichity Cup. Conditions were challenging, with low water temperatures slowing fish down.
The heat was won by last year's strong finisher, Jamie Macgregor Snr, with a two fish bag of 8lb 5oz (including a fish of 6lb 3oz).
Martin Haberfield led the heat for much of the day with a fine fish of 7lb and there was late drama when he caught a fish as the final peg finished, only to find that he had hooked a brown trout which had to be returned.
Liam Skinner took second place on countback, with Martin third.
Last year's winner, James Gray was fourth, and James Watson won the bottle. However, some noticeable blanks including 2014 Runner Up Graham Matheson and 2013 Champion, David Skinner.
All to play for in Heat 2 on Saturday 2 May.

Happy New Year - Fishery Update

A very happy new year to you all.
The Fishery has remained closed since our last blog. For most of the period since 8 December, the lochans have been frozen. On the few occasions that the lochans have thawed, the banks have been waterlogged.
That continues to be the case, and with bad weather forecast, it is unlikely that we will be able to open for the next few days. As soon as conditions improve, we will update the blog.
In the meantime, to all of those who have called, followed the blog or had fruitless visits, thank you for your patience.
