Fishery Closed - Friday 25 November

After a short holiday, we have returned to frozen lochans!

It appears that the lochans began to freeze last Sunday and are now fully frozen.  Apologies to anyone who came up during this week to find the lochans frozen.

We will update the blog by 09.00 am on the morning of any day that a thaw makes the lochans fishable.

2016 Dunlichity Cup Heat 7 Results

16 competitors arrived for the penultimate heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup, and by the end of the heat, we still do not know who this year's outright winner will be!

It was good to welcome back James Watson, who took the first fish at 3lb 14oz - good enough to win the bottle.

It was a cagey affair for the top three going in to the heat, and Jamie Macgregor Snr, Tim Watson and Liam Skinner were 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.  However, the winner was Ian Young, with two fish to 6lb 7oz.

Going into the final heat, Liam Skinner leads by one point from Tim Watson, with Jamie Macgregor Snr five points further behind in 3rd place.  This year's winner will come from one of these three, but with seven prizes up for grabs plus the heat prizes, it should be an interesting heat!

The final heat of the Dunlichity Cup is Saturday 5 November at 09.00.

If you can get a lift, then "bring a bottle" for the end of season celebration.

2016 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 6 Results

Heat 6 of the 2016 Dunlichity Cup  took place on Saturday 3 September.  Conditions on the day were good and the heat started well for Neil Pirrie, who caught a fish as soon as his first cast hit the water.  Soon afterwards, he caught the second largest fish of the day at 3lb 3oz.

Unlike most heats, more fish were taken in the afternoon session, and a number of competitors blanked in spite of catching fish.

Honours for the day went to Tim Watson, with a bag of 6lb 5oz (including the biggest fish of the day at 3lb 15oz).  Second was George Skinner and third was Jamie Macgregor Snr.  Season leader Liam Skinner was 5th and the bottle went to Neil Pirrie.

With only two heats left, any of 6 competitors could still win the title.  Last year's winner Liam Skinner has now seen his lead cut to only two points by Tim Watson. Everything to play for!

The penultimate heat of the 2016 Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 1 October.

Dunlichity Cup Heats 3, 4 and 5

Three heats of the Dunlichity Cup have taken place since the last update:

Heat 3 - Saturday 4 June
The heat marked a welcome return to the competition for Magnus Macdonald and James Gray.  After blanking in the previous heat, Liam Skinner returned to form with second place and 9 points for a bag of 8lb 3oz.  Top place, however went to Billy Brown, with a bag of 9lb.  George Skinner was third and George Ritchie won the bottle.

Heat 4 - Saturday 2 July
The heat marked a welcome return to form for two Dunlichity Cup stalwarts, Graham Matheson and David Skinner.  Graham won the heat with a bag of 8lb 4oz after having blanked the first three heats.  David was second with 7lb 12oz and in third place was Ronnie Macdonald.  The bottle went to Neil Pirrie with the biggest fish of the day at 5lb 4oz.

Heat 5 - Saturday 13 August
Due to Moy and Belladrum, Heat 5 took place a week later than normal and attracted 16 competitors.  It was business as usual for last year's cup winner and runner-up, with Liam Skinner taking first place with 5lb 15 oz and Jamie Macgregor Snr taking second place with 5lb.  Before departing for a lengthy break, James Watson signed off with third place.  We all wish him the very best and hope to see him back soon.  George Skinner took the bottle.

The overall standings after 5 heats show 2015 Champion Liam Skinner in front by 6 points from Tim Watson with Ronnie Macdonald third.

2016 Dunlichity Cup Heats 1 and 2

It was a case of ups and downs for 2015 Dunlichity Cup Champion Liam Skinner.

In Heat 1, two fish at 7lb 4oz during the fourth peg were enough to put him 1lb 2oz ahead of second place Ronnie Macdonald,. with George Skinner third at 5lb 12oz.  Tim Watson took the bottle.  Last year's runner up Jamie MacGregor Snr only secured tenth place with one point.

Heat 2, in a reversal of the first heat, Jamie took first place with 7lb 3oz, thanks to a 4lb 10oz fish in the last peg.  George Ritchie was second with 5lb 13oz and George Swanson was third with 5lb 11oz, with the bottle going to Jamie Jnr.  Liam ended 11th with "nil point"!
