About a third of the top lochan has thawed overnight and the current temperature means more will thaw throughout the day. It is not exactly Eskimo fishing but we have opened the gate for anyone looking to add a trout to the Christmas dinner table!

Following the postponement of the September and October heats of the Dunlichity Cup to enable water levels to improve, the heats finally got underway three weeks later. As a result of pre-booked commitments, numbers for the heats were down, with 10 and 13 competitors respectively.
Heat 6
Jamie MacGregor Snr took advantage of the lower numbers with a heat winning bag of 6lb 15oz. Gordon Haggart was second, John Allison third and Graham Matheson took the bottle.
Graham Matheson continued his good recent form with a bag of 8lb 13oz, which included the biggest fish of the day at 6lb 12oz. George Ritchie was second, Neil Pirrie third and the bottle went to Matt Thompson.
The eighth and final heat of the 2018 Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 3 November at 09.00.

After two heats where fishing was really hard, it was great to see the Lochans fishing well for this heat.
Everyone caught fish and had at least one fish on the board by the end of the second peg. Indeed all but one had their full bag by the end of the heat.
Competition leader Jamie Macgregor Snr caught the most fish during the day (double figures) but the big fish were caught by Graham Matheson (4lb 9oz, 3lb 6oz), with Ian Young (3lb 7oz), George Ritchie (3lb 3oz) and Gordon Haggart (3lb 1oz) also catching good fish. Graham, Ian and George were 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Gordon took the bottle.
The leader board has now got tighter at the top with three heats to go.
The dates for the next 3 heats have now changed. See the next blog for further information.

The 15 competitors who attended Heat 4 of this year's Dunlichity Cup were met by awful conditions - low water, warm water, bright sunlight and unresponsive fish!
In the pre-competition briefing, it was mentioned that given the conditions, fish would be scarce - how true that was. By the end of the heat, only 7 fish had been taken (although a few others were returned - big mistake!).
George Ritchie won the bottle for the biggest fish outside of the top three with a fish that was lighter than the bottle's contents!
Winner was David Skinner, with two of the three biggest fish caught during the heat. George Skinner was second and Liam Skinner rounded off a Skinner 1-2-3.
Absent Jamie Macgregor Snr remains in the lead overall but with others closing in, there is everything to play for!
The next heat of the Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 9 August at 09.00.

It's quite ironic, sitting here in the scorching heat waiting for rain to lift the Lochan levels, to report that the last heat of the Dunlichity Cup was affected by electrical storms!
Nearby thunder led us to take an early lunch after three pegs in the hope that the electrical activity would quickly pass. Unfortunately, the continued threat of lightning meant that the afternoon session was not able to commence until 14.00 and consisted of three 30 minute pegs.
The conditions were not great and fish were at a premium. Leader Jamie Macgregor Snr extended his unbeaten run to 4 matches, with Graham Matheson taking second place with Ian Young third. James Gray won the bottle.
Jamie leads after three heats, with James Gray second and last year's winner Gordon Haggart in third.

17 competitors arrived on Saturday 12 May for the second heat of the Dunlichity Cup. These included newcomers Dave Falkingham, Jimmy Cooper and Matt Thompson.
With bright conditions and the competition occurring towards the end of a stocking cycle, it was anticipated that going would be hard - and so it was! Unusually, more fish were caught in the afternoon session than in the morning.
Jamie Macgregor Senior caught the biggest fish of the day at 5lb 6oz and went on to win the heat, with Liam Skinner second and James Gray third. George Skinner won the bottle for the largest fish outside of the top 3.
After two heats, Jamie's winning streak continues, having won the first two heats and the 2017 Troutmaster Fish Off. Previous winner James Gray is in second place.

Ticket Prices from April 2018

Mike Fitzgerald |
Edit Post
Most of the ticket prices at Dunlichity Trout Fishery have
not increased since 2010 / 2011, with some not having changed since 2009. Throughout this time, we have sought to keep ticket prices
down in spite of the Fishery’s costs continuing to increase.
In order to ensure that the Fishery remains well stocked
with good quality fish, we are introducing a new price list from April
2018. The new prices are listed below. Competition prices will remain
unaltered for this year but will be increased slightly in 2019.

The top lochan is almost entirely clear of ice although the bottom lochan is still largely frozen. Further thawing is likely today. Water is now back on in the Bothy.
The forecast for the coming week is for more cold weather so keep checking the blog if you intend to come up to fish.

The top lochan is now clear of ice and the bottom lochan is thawing rapidly so we are reopening this morning. The banks are still very wet so care is need when moving around the fishery.
Unfortunately, there is no water in the both for toilets but work is being carried out on that today.

Both Lochans are completely frozen this morning. We will update the Blog as soon as anything changes.
On a brighter note, yesterday was our first day open this year and everyone who came caught fish!

Happy new year!
We have opened the Fishery this morning. There is still some ice on the bottom lochan but the top lochan has completely cleared. The banks are very wet but are useable with care.
The Bothy remains closed as we have currently no water or power supply.
Given the cold weather forecast for the coming week, it is possible that we could be closed again soon so check the Blog before coming to the Fishery.
