2019 Dunlichity Cup Heat 7

Heat 7 saw 13 competitors trying to influence the outcome of this year's competition.

Allan Dallas set the early pace with a fish at 4lb 14oz.  Although this was the only fish that Allan kept, it was enough to clinch third place. First place went to David Skinner with two fish at 5lb 12oz.  George Skinner won the bottle.

But Jamie MacGregor's second place, with two fish at 5lb 9oz,  was enough to win this year's competition with a heat still to go.

With one heat to go, Jamie's position at the head of the leader board is unassailable. However, season prizes go down to 7th place, so there is still a lot to play for.

The final heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 2 November at 09.00.

2019 Dunlichity Cup Heat 6

Conditions for Heat 6 of this year's Dunlichity Cup were far more favourable than Heat 5, and Gordon Haggart quickly caught the biggest fish of the day on Peg 1 before going on to win the heat with a two fish bag at 5lb 4oz.

Graham Matheson caught 18 fish during the heat and finished second with 4lb 15oz. Jimmy Cooper was third and Neil Pirrie took the bottle for the biggest fish outside of the top 3.

Seven points by virtue of two fish in the last two pegs keep Jamie MacGregor Snr out front at the top of the leader board, with Gordon Haggart closing the gap to ten points.  With two heats left, any one of six can still win this year's Dunlichity Cup, but Jamie is the only one who can clinch victory in Heat 7.

Heat 7 of this year's Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 12 October at 09.00.

2019 Dunlichity Cup Heat 5

Since the Dunlichity Cup's inception, it is difficult to remember more difficult conditions than those which the 13 competitors had to deal with during Heat 5 of this year's competition.  A very strong, swirling wind made casting difficult, particularly from the far bank.

In spite of the conditions, a lot of fish were caught and taken.  Neil Pirrie had to leave after three pegs, but the two fish for 4lb 3oz which he took were good enough for third place.

Victory went to Dunlichity Cup newcomer Chris Doherty, with a bag of 7lb 15oz, with Jimmy Cooper second with 4lb 13oz.  Allan Dallas won the bottle with the only fish that he kept.

Jamie Macgregor Snr remains in overall first place, with Denis Howell second, but with three heats remaining, any one of 16 anglers could still take first place.

The sixth heat of the Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 5 October at 09.00.

Heat 8 - 2 November

2019 Dunlichity Cup Heat 4

Conditions were good for the 4th heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup, and the heat got off to a flying start with fish of 5lb, 3lb 10oz and 3lb 7oz being caught on the first peg.  Sadly, this lulled everyone into a false level of confidence that their next fish was going to be a monster!

Although more big fish were caught, many competitors returned fish early on, then ended up blanking!  Only six competitors took fish, leaving valuable league points unclaimed.

League leader Jamie MacGregor Snr consolidated his position at the top of the leaderboard with a bag of 8lb 8oz, with 2018 newcomer Denis Howell taking second with a bag of 7lb 6oz and Davis Skinner third with 5lb 8oz. Alan Dallas took the bottle for the largest fish outside the top 3.
Denis Howell, Jamie MacGregor Snr, David Skinner and Allan Dallas

Denis Howell's second place moves him to second place overall.  Neil Pirrie was also a mover, rising up to fourth place.  With 4 heats still to go, anyone can still win this year's league!

The 5th heat is on Saturday 14 September at 09.00.

2019 Dunlichity Cup Heat 3

Fishing conditions were good for the third heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup.  Unusually, the majority of fish were taken in the afternoon session.

Denis Howell set the early pace, taking his two fish in the first two pegs with a combined weight of 4lb 12oz.  Gordon Haggart then went into the lead with tow fish in Peg 5 for 6lb 11oz (including one fish at 4lb 4oz).

The heat was finally won when Jamie MacGregor Snr caught his second fish during the final peg to finish with a bag of 7lb 1oz.  Neil Pirrie won the bottle for the biggest fish outside the top 3.

Denis Howell, Jamie MacGregor Snr, Gordon Haggart and Neil Pirrie

After 3 heats, Jamie MacGregor leads with 25 points, followed by Gordon Haggart in second place and Denis Howell in third.

The next heat is on Saturday 6 July.

2019 Dunlichity Cup Heat 2

14 competitors arrived to find cold and snowy conditions.  It was good to see James Watson attend for the first time in many heats.

As usual, a lot of fish were caught in the early pegs, with the action slowing down in the afternoon, leaving a lot of people with only one fish bags.

George Ritchie and first timer Denis Howell both secured 10 points with bags of 5lb 5oz each.  Denis took the first prize on the basis of the biggest fish (3lb 1oz compared with George's 3lb 0oz!).  Jamie Macgregor Snr was third with 4lb 15oz.  Jimmy Cooper was the only other competitor to take two fish.  Gordon Haggart won the bottle for a fish of 3lb 12oz.
Gordon Haggart, Jamie Macgregor Snr, Denis Howell and George Ritchie

After two heats, things are close at the top of the leader board with Jamie Macgregor Snr on 15 points, Gordon Haggart on 12 points and 5 anglers on 10 points.

The next heat is on Saturday 1 June at 09.00

Jamie MacGregor Snr Wins 2018 Dunlichity Cup

After 8 heats, the 2018 Dunlichity Cup was won by Jamie MacGregor Snr.  Wins in each of the first three heats gave Jamie a strong early lead, but by the final heat, any one of five competitors could take the title.

The final heat unusually ended in a dead heat, with Martin Krop and Gordon Haggart each claiming 10 points.  Graham Matheson was third and Ronnie Macdonald won the bottle for the largest fish outside of the top three. However, Jamie's 6 points was enough for him to clinch first place from Graham Matheson.
