2023 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 5 and Season Results

10 keen anglers arrived for the final heat of the 2023 Dunlichity Cup, with the eventual season winner still to be determined.

A lot of fish were caught and everyone scored points.  Liam Skinner took 10 points with a bag of 5lb 15oz, with Graham Matheson second and Michael Gordon third.

The overall competition was won by Allan Dallas, who scored seven points or more in four of the season's five heats.  Liam Skinner's ten points in the final heat secured him second place, with last year's winner, Graham Matheson in third.

Jamie MacGregor Snr, Neil Pirrie, David Skinner and Denis Howell all won fishery vouchers.

2023 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 5 Saturday 7 October

The final heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup will take place on Saturday 7 October at 09.00.

2023 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 4 Results

14 competitors attended for the 4th heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup.

Liam Skinner, who began the day in joint second place, had to leave after two pegs and was unable to add to his points total.

Martin Krop, in a change to his usual tactics, took both of his fish in the first peg and was rewarded with second place and 9 points.

The heat winner was Graham Matheson, with a bag of 6lb.  Allan Dallas' third place saw him retain overall lead, with Jamie MacGregor Snr in second place.

With one heat to go, Allan Dallas is in a very strong position.  With Jamie MacGregor Snr's absence from the final heat, only Liam Skinner and Graham Matheson can prevent Allan from taking this year's trophy.  With prizes down to 7th place, 17 anglers could still win a prize.

The final heat is on Saturday 7 October at 09.00.

Fishery Closing Times

As the nights draw in, we are now basing our closing times to the sunset.

Our opening times will now be from 09.00 to sunset.  The last ticket will be issued 2 hours before sunset and if there is nobody at the fishery at that time, the fishery will close.

We will be using the sunset time as on the bottom right hand corner of the BBC weather website for Inverness (see photo below as an example for today's closing times).

Today's sunset time is 19.03, so the today's last ticket will be need to be issued by 17.03.

2023 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 3 Results

15 competitors arrived for the third heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup. In particular, it was good to welcome back Gordon Haggart, Michael Gordon and George Skinner.

Although there were forecasts of lightning, thankfully, we escaped any really adverse weather.

The first peg was eventful, with Jamie MacGregor Snr catching 12 fish and George Skinner celebrating his return to the Dunlichity Cup by going for a dip in the lochan!

As usual, most fish were caught in the first four pegs, with Jamie catching his winning 6lb 15oz bag in the first three pegs.  Michael Gordon was second with 5lb 11oz and Liam Skinner third with 5lb 3oz.  George Skinner won the bottle ( for the biggest fish outside of the top three and for the best dive of the day!).

With two heats remaining, anyone can still win this year's trophy, but Allan Dallas is the only competitor who can win it at the next heat.

The 4th and penultimate heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup is on Saturday 2 September at 09.00.

2023 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 2 Results

18 competitors arrived in bright, sunny conditions for this year's second heat. Scott Fraser and Robert Stronach appeared for their first outings in the competition this year.

Jamie MacGregor Snr completed his bag within two pegs for a weight of 5lb 7oz. However, this was only good enough for second place after Allan Dallas caught his second fish in the fourth pegs (one of the big ones!) to finish with a winning weight of 7lb 0oz.

Graham Matheson took third place with 4lb 13oz and Lian Skinner took the bottle of win for the best fish outside the top three for the second consecutive time.

Current league positions are as follows:

2023 Dunlichity Cup - Heat 1 Results

It was great to welcome 17 competitors to the first heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup, after an absence of a year.

Conditions were good and fish were moving, and tactics played a large part in the outcome of the heat.  The lure of a 10lber meant that a lot of smaller fish were returned and resulted in only three competitors taking their full bag.

Allan Dallas led the way with two great fish in the first peg and set a target that nobody could match.  David Skinner came second with his two fish caught in the last ten minutes of the last peg.  Denis Howell came third and Liam Skinner won a bottle of wine for the best fish outside of the top three.

Current league positions are as follows:

Heat 2 of this year's is on Saturday 17 June.

Fishery Closed. Reopens Monday 20 March weather permitting

An overnight frost has resulted in the lochans remaining frozen this morning.

There are varying weather forecasts over the next few days.  However, we have a number of jobs to carry out at the fishery and bothy so intend to remain closed until Monday 20 March, at which point we will reopen, weather permitting.  If there are any changes to this, we will update the Blog.

Wednesday 8 March - Fishery Closed

The fishery reopened as planned on 1 March, with Gary Russell catching the first 3 fish of the season.

Fish have continued to be caught but the cold weather has made conditions difficult.

After very low overnight temperatures, both lochans are frozen.  Given the forecast for the next few days is more very low temperatures, we have decided to remain closed over the weekend.  We will review the status of the fishery next week, with a view to reopening on Wednesday, conditions permitting.

Fishery Update - January 2023

Happy New Year to everyone.

We are still here and just want to give everyone an update regarding the fishery.

We have been frozen since before Christmas and given the usual weather profile for this time of the year, we have decided to remain closed until 1 March, when we will reopen subject to weather conditions.

We hope you are all well and look forward to seeing you later in the year.

Best wishes

Karen and Mike
