Dunlichity Cup Heat 5 - Saturday 9 August

Only ten competitors turned up for what proved to be the most successful heat of this year's competition so far.

Martin Haberfield chose to take his first two fish and was finished before the end of the first peg.  Indeed, everyone had taken their first fish by the end of the second peg, and four had finished after peg 3.

Liam Skinner had to leave at 11.30 due to other commitments, and in true Liam fashion, caught his second fish at 11.29!

First place went to John Allison who was competing for the first time this year, with a bag of 6lb 14oz.  This just pipped Graham Matheson into second place by one ounce, with James Gray third.  The bottle went to James Watson.

Things are hotting up in the overall competition, with Graham Matheson joining George Skinner at the top of the leaderboard with 25 points. With three heats left, there is everything to play for!
The next heat is on Saturday 6 September at 09.00.

Dunlichity Cup Heat 4 - Saturday 13 July

As the rain hits the window, it is difficult to picture the conditions which faced competitors when they arrived for Heat 4 of the 2013 Dunlichity Cup!  Heat, clear skies and lochans that were at record low water levels.

We anticipated that the general conditions, coupled with the low oxygen levels would mean that fishing would be tough.  How right we were!

Throughout the heat, 16 anglers only managed to take 9 fish.  All agreed that the fish were there but were simply not interested.  Heat 3 winner Darren Skinner probably had the best idea, leaving early empty-handed to tend the Scottish Open greens at Castle Stuart!

The fish that were caught, however meant that some new names were amongst the winners, with Garry Patience winning with 5lb 14 oz, and Neil Pirrie third with 3lb 4oz.  In second place was 2011 Champion Liam Skinner.  The bottle went to James Gray.

Liam's second place moved him to the top of the overall standings, with other big movers including Garry, Neil, and James.

The next heat is on Saturday 9 August at 09.00

Dunlichity Cup Heat 1 - Saturday 6 April

A good turnout of competitors met with good fishing conditions for the first heat of the 2013 Dunlichity Cup.

18 anglers caught over 70 fish throughout the day, with 23 fish being taken.  16 3lb+ fish and 7 4lb+ fish were landed.

With last year's high fliers Colin Keith and Bill Greig failing to enter a fish, and with Ian Young on holiday, it was left to George Skinner to take first prize with a bag of 9lb 2oz.  James Watson was second with 8lb 11oz and 2011 winner Liam Skinner was third with 7lb 15oz.  Graham Matheson continued last year's practice of winning the bottle!

This year, the league is run on a points basis, with the winner getting 10 points, second getting 9 points etc.  As a result, the standings after the first heat are:
The next heat is on Saturday 4 May.  Please note that it has been necessary to change the date of the July heat from Saturday 6 July to Saturday 13 July.

2012 Dunlichity Cup Heat 6

14 competitors turned up to the penultimate Dunlichity Cup heat of the season to be greeted by unusually sunny and calm conditions.  It was clear that the flat surface conditions would prove a challenge and although many fish were showing, catching them was clearly a different matter!

Colin Keith secured his fourth top three place of the season by taking first place with two fish to 5lb 5oz.  Magnus Macdonald took second place from Sean Cowan with a fish in the last five minutes of the last peg!  Graham Matheson won the "largest fish" bottle.

The results of the 6th Heat consolidated Colin Keith's place at the top of the leaderboard, and with only one heat left, put him in an unassailable position.  Competition for second place has hotted up, with 9 competitors in with a realistic change of securing Runner-Up spot.

The final heat of the 2012 Dunlichity Cup will be held on Saturday 3 November.  In addition to the Heat prizes that will be up-for-grabs, we will also be presenting the overall season prizes, including the Winner and Runners-Up trophies and cash prizes and fishery vouchers for the next five finishers.

2012 Dunlichity Cup Heat 5

14 competitors arrived on a bright Saturday morning.  Three new competitors joined the group -  Darren Skinner, Dave Longmuir and Michael Kerr.

In spite of the early bright conditions, three competitors had taken their two fish bag before the break.  The heat winner was James Gray, with a bag of 6lb 12oz.  Newcomer Dave Longmuir was second with 6lb 4oz and third was Graham Matheson with 5lb 4oz.  Darren Skinner won the bottle on countback from Magnus Macdonald.

In terms of the overall league positions, Bill Greig's absence due to work commitments meant Colin Keith consolidated his position at the top of the leaderboard.  Big movers were James Gray (up 5 places) and Graham Matheson (up 9 places).

The next heat is on Saturday 6th October.

Dunlichity Cup Heat 1 - 14 April 2012

Ian Young, Robert Todd, George Skinner and Colin Keith

The first heat of the 2012 Dunlichity Cup competition was held on Saturday 14 April.  Conditions were mixed but 16 hardy souls turned out for what proved to be a productive day, with 7 competitors taking bags in excess of 6lb.

The day was won by George Skinner, with a two fish bag of 7lb 14oz which included the biggest fish of the day at 4lb 3oz.  In second place was Ian Young with 7lb 5oz and Colin Keith pipped Richard Franklin to third place (both had a bag of 6lb 13oz but Colin won on the basis of the largest individual fish).

The bottle for the largest fish outside of the top three was won by Robert Todd.

Heat 2 of the competition will be held on Saturday 12 May.
