Dunlichity Cup Resumes Saturday 12 September

After numerous requests, we have decided to resume the Dunlichity Cup competition.
This year, the Dunlichity Cup will consist of five heats, held every fortnight. The format will remain the same (any two fish), but there will be some changes:
- Timings will be the same but there will be no lunch provided so competitors will need to bring their own food.
- The draw for pegs and all movements around the lochans will be conducted in accordance with our Covid-19 arrangements.
- Fishery prices have risen this year, but as no food is now being provided, we will keep the competition price at £27.
- Prizes will be a third of the entry fees taken, up to a maximum pot of £120. Pot will be shared half to the winner, a third to the runner up and a sixth to the third place.
- The overall Competition winner will receive £50, the Cup and a personal trophy at the end of the season. Second place will receive £25 and a personal trophy.
The dates for the heats are as follows:
Heat 1 - Saturday 12 September
Heat 2 - Saturday 26 September
Heat 3 - Saturday 10 October
Heat 4 - Saturday 24 October
Heat 5 - Saturday 7 November

Dunlichity Cup 2015 Heat 4 - Saturday 4 July
Whilst 4th July means fireworks in USA, anyone expecting fireworks in the 4th heat of the Dunlichity Cup were in for a disappointment!
Having carried out a full stocking the day before, it would have been fair to assume that a lot of fish would be caught. This was not the case, and we were all left scratching our heads as to the reasons for the poor returns (more about this later).
One person who was not worried was overall leader Liam Skinner, who, with the largest fish of the day, secured another ten points. Second place went to Tim Watson (the only competitor to take two fish) with James Gray in third place. Jamie Macgregor Jnr had the largest fish outside of the top three.

After the competition, Graham Matheson (who had blanked) stayed on and caught 5. The following morning, Dean Geddes caught 10, including an 8lb 2oz fish. In subsequent days, we have had 8 or 9 double figure catches. One of the fish caught during the competition was spooned to see if it was tadpole gorging that had caused the hard fishing conditions, but it only contained midge pupa. So, it is still a mystery (I still think air pressure!).

James Gray wins 2014 Dunlichity Cup

After
8 heats, James Gray has been crowned Dunlichity Cup Champion for 2014 at
Dunlichity Trout Fishery, narrowly edging Graham Matheson into second place.

In
fourth place was Heat 8 winner Jamie MacGregor Snr with 36 points. His record of three wins and a fourth place
in four appearances makes him one to watch for this season. In the final heat, George Skinner was second, Aeneas Taylor third and Steve Junor won the bottle for the largest fish outside of the top three.

Over
£1100 was handed out in prize money throughout the season, plus bottles and
fishery vouchers.
The 2015 Dunlichity Cup begins on Saturday 4 April and further details will be published on the Blog.

Colin Keith - 2012 Dunlichity Cup Winner
Congratulations to Colin Keith, who ended the 2012 Dunlichity Cup competition as a worthy champion. Held over 7 heats between April and November, Colin won two heats and was in the top three in two others. Colin had a season bag of 37lb 4oz and also caught the biggest fish of the competition at 12lb 1oz.
Ian Young came a creditable second with a season bag of 24lb 7oz, with James Gray third with 22lb 7oz.
During the season, 27 anglers competed, in excess of 295lb in fish were taken and prizes to a value in excess of £1200 were distributed.

There will be a few changes to the way that the competition operates in 2013. These changes, together with the competition dates will be published shortly.
