2020 Dunlichity Cup Heat 1

At long last, we were able to hold our first competition since Lockdown, with 12 anglers competing in the first heat of this year's Dunlichity Cup.  Everyone observed the Covid-19 protocols introduced to keep the fishery a safe environment for all.

A strong, swirling wind made conditions challenging but fortunately, the forecast rain held off.  Fish were caught from the first five minutes of the first peg, but many competitors held off taking both fish.  This led to come frantic casting during the last peg.

Liam Skinner took first prize with a two fish bag at 4lb 13oz, with Jamie MacGregor Snr second, and David Skinner third.  In all, eight competitors collected their first points of the season.

The next heat is on Saturday 26 September at 09.00.

Dunlichity Cup Resumes Saturday 12 September

After numerous requests, we have decided to resume the Dunlichity Cup competition.

This year, the Dunlichity Cup will consist of five heats, held every fortnight.  The format will remain the same (any two fish), but there will be some changes:

  • Timings will be the same but there will be no lunch provided so competitors will need to bring their own food.
  • The draw for pegs and all movements around the lochans will be conducted in accordance with our Covid-19 arrangements.
  • Fishery prices have risen this year, but as no food is now being provided, we will keep the competition price at £27.
  • Prizes will be a third of the entry fees taken, up to a maximum pot of £120.  Pot will be shared half to the winner, a third to the runner up and a sixth to the third place.
  • The overall Competition winner will receive £50, the Cup and a personal trophy at the end of the season.  Second place will receive £25 and a personal trophy.
The dates for the heats are as follows:

Heat 1 - Saturday 12 September
Heat 2 - Saturday 26 September
Heat 3 - Saturday 10 October
Heat 4 - Saturday 24 October
Heat 5 - Saturday 7 November

If you have any queries about the competition, please get in touch with us.

Fishery Operational Arrangements - Covid-19

Following the Scottish Government's announcement dated 28 May 2020 relaxing some Lockdown restrictions, Dunlichity Trout Fishery will reopen with effect from Friday 29 May.

We take the ongoing situation regarding Covid-19 very seriously and we would like all our visitors to do the same.

We consider the risk to anglers to be minimal once they are out fishing.  However, there are precautions that we will all need to take:

- Please do not bring children or non-fishing guests to the Fishery with you.  The Fishery is restricted to anglers only.

- The Bothy will be closed until further notice.  The toilet is also currently unavailable whilst essential repairs are carried out to the Bothy.  The outside sink is also unavailable.

- Do not share fishing equipment.  It is also advisable to bring something with you to place on the peg seats.  During this time, there will be no rental equipment available.

- For safety reasons, we have ceased the provision of complimentary tea, coffee and juices. Please bring your own refreshments with you.

- Please do not visit the Fishery if you have any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19 - stay at home until you are well.

- We do not have facilities for cashless payments, so we would be grateful if you could bring the correct money with you. Familiarise yourself with the revised ticket prices. A link to the prices is at the bottom of this page.

- We are not introducing a booking system and fishing will be on a first come, first served basis.  We are limiting the number of anglers on the Lochans at any time to a maximum of 25.  Please be aware in the unlikely situation where we have people waiting to fish, we will be more diligent in enforcing ticket start and finish times.

- Use the Fishery Car Park.  If it becomes too congested to appropriately conduct self-distancing, then feel free to park at the House.

- Please respect distancing on the banks ("2 metre personal exclusion zone").
We sincerely believe that fly fishing can continue to operate safely providing everyone shows common sense and follows the basic guidelines outlined above.  We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who does not respect our arrangements.

We appreciate that this is an unprecedented situation and that for the coming period our lives will be disrupted but please be sensible, respect others and enjoy fly fishing at Dunlichity safely.

If you have any questions regarding these arrangements, please email us on dunlichityhouse1@btinternet.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Fishery Update

We are getting lots of enquiries regarding when the Fishery will reopen.

The Scottish Government has indicated that fishing can recommence providing that there has not been a deterioration of Covid-19 situation in Scotland, and will give a further update in the Government Briefing on Thursday.  During the Briefing, we anticipate that we will be advised when we can legally open.  Once we receive this information, we will decide on opening plans and publish them on this Blog, together with any revised practical arrangements on Thursday afternoon.

Fishery Closed Until Further Notice

Given this evening's government announcement placing wide restrictions on movement, we have taken the decision to close the Fishery until further notice with immediate effect.

Although managed responsibly, the Fishery could safely stay open, we firmly believe that it would give entirely the wrong message.  Everyone needs to greatly restrict their personal movements or many, many people will needlessly die.

Karen and I hope that you all stay safe and healthy and look forward to seeing you all again at the other side.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update

Thank you to everyone who has kindly observed the new arrangements related to the Coronavirus outbreak.  We are in a fast changing situation and have been continually reviewing the arrangements to ensure that we maximise everyone's safety.  To that end, we are now going to cease renting out fishing gear until further notice.  This will further reduce social interaction and help keep the fishery a safe place to fish.

The revised arrangements are as follows:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please do not bring children or non-fishing guests to the Fishery with you.  The Fishery is restricted to anglers only.

Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, and where this is not available, please use hand sanitiser.  We cannot guarantee stocks of sanitiser, so please bring your own with you.

For safety reasons, we are ceasing the provision of complimentary tea, coffee and juices. Please bring your own refreshments with you.

Throughout the day and on a regular basis, we will be spraying all common contact points (eg door handles, toilet handles, taps etc) with an anti-bacterial spray.  Towels will be replaced with disposable paper toilet roll.

Please do not visit the Fishery if you have developed a dry cough, a sore throat or a fever (a temperature higher than 37.8C/100F) - stay at hole until you are well.

Try to bring the correct money with you for your fishing ticket, so the booking process interaction can be minimised.

Please avoid gathering in the Bothy, even in small groups.  The same is appropriate on the banks ("2 metre exclusion zone").

No hire equipment will be available to rent until further notice.

Fishery Update - Sunday 22 March

The Fishery has now been reopened for two weeks since our winter shutdown (and people are finally noticing that there is no longer a tree in the middle of the car park!).

Apart from a couple of days when there were in excess of ten anglers, the fishery has been lightly fished.

There has, however been some great catches over the fortnight including:

Graham Matheson - 18 fish
Grant Donaldson - 13 fish
Kevin Carpenter - 14 fish
Zac Keil - 16 fish
Ian MacFarlane - 20 fish and 15 fish.

Fishery operations have been affected by the Coronavirus outbreak, and for everyone's safety, certain control measures have been put in place.  Thank you to everyone who has diligently observed the new arrangements.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update

Given the current global situation regarding Coronavirus, we have been reviewing our operation at Dunlichity.  We are taking the current situation regarding Covid-19 very seriously, and we would like all our visitors to do the same.

We remain open for business and consider the risk to anglers to be minimal once they are out fishing.  However, there are precautions we will all need to take:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please do not bring children or non-fishing guests to the Fishery with you.  The Fishery is restricted to anglers only.

Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, and where this is not available, please use hand sanitiser.  We cannot guarantee stocks of sanitiser, so please bring your own with you.

For safety reasons, we are ceasing the provision of complimentary tea, coffee, and juices.  Please bring your own refreshments with you.

Throughout each day, we will be spraying all common contact points (eg door handles, toilet handle, taps etc) with an anti-bacterial spray on a regular basis.  Towels will be replaced with disposable paper towel roll.

Please do not visit the Fishery if you have developed a persistent dry cough, a sore throat or a fever (a temperature higher than 37.8 C/100 F) - stay at home until you are well.

Try to bring the correct money with you for your fishing ticket, so the booking process interaction can be minimised.

Please avoid gathering inside the Bothy, even in small groups.  The same is appropriate on the banks ("2 metre personal exclusion zone").
------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have received guidance from Troutmaster regarding the forthcoming Fish Off, and have decided to postpone the Fish Off until later in the year.  We will contact all participants once we have a revised date, but it will not be until August at the earliest.  We have also decided that it is inadvisable to continue with this year's Dunlichity Cup.  If possible, a shorter version of the Dunlichity Cup will be held later in the year.

In light of the impact of the current situation on stocking prices, we also need to increase the price of the first fish taken from £2 to £4.  We will update the website and the bothy posters accordingly.  Catch and Release tickets remain unaltered.

We sincerely believe that fly-fishing can continue to operate providing everyone shows common-sense and follows the basic precautions outlined above.  Indeed, being out in the fresh air will probably benefit most people over the coming months.

We appreciate that this is an unprecedented situation and that for the coming period our lives will be disrupted, but please be sensible, respect others, and enjoy fly-fishing at Dunlichity safely.
